Prayer and Fasting Resources
Fasting does not change God—but it changes us, aligning our hearts with His will. Fasting is not about earning God’s favor to get the outcome we want. It is a way to draw closer to God with greater focus, humility and dependence.
Why do we pray and fast?
· Prayer connects us to God
· Fasting removes distractions to seek Him more intentionally
· Prayer is the primary focus; fasting supports and deepens prayer.
What to Expect
· A deeper sensitivity to God’s presence
· Greater unity as a church family
· Strengthened faith and spiritual growth
· Peace and trust
What Not to Expect
· A guaranteed specific outcome
· Physical ease—fasting can be challenging
· God’s favor as a reward for sacrifice
Ways to Fast (Food and Non-Food Options)
Whatever you choose to give up, replace the time that you would be engaging in that activity with prayer, Scripture, or reflection. Prayer is the most important part—fasting looks different for everyone.
